Power Plant 2040 move

The Power Plant 2040 used to be in a small room in the booking hall used as a ticket office but this was demolished as part of the improvements to the station, so for a while it was in full public view, even being switched off on one occassion so some Christmas lights plugged in instead, this was despite having a note saying it was not to be switched off.
Eventually the batteries expired resulting in loss of telephone service at the site.

There was a requirement for the unit to be moved into the house next door. Originally the unit was going to be with the exchange equipment on the first floor but due to the weight it was to be installed in the cellar.

It was planned for the job to be done in two stages, instead the move was made in one go on Sept 7th 2007, new 50 volt distribution cables having been pre-run between the comms room and the cellar.
The original two stage plan had to be abandoned as some one threw the temporary fuse panel needed for the job away, a note saying it wasn't to be thrown out being ignored.

I thought the most difficult task would be getting the cabinet into the cellar but this proved to be very straightforward thanks to the assistance of the loco shed staff.

The note on the door says nothing was to be stood on top of the unit as it blocked the air ventilation, one might as well have saved ones time as it was usual to find the top being used to store items.

Only one set of second hand cells installed

Cellar - new cables already run

Power plant installed in cellar - 2 sets of new cells fitted

Job completed
